Carbon-Aware Computing

GreenFrame

Estimate and monitor the carbon footprint of web application user scenarios, including in CI.

Verified 2026-10-22

Overview

GreenFrame estimates the carbon footprint of a user scenario on a web application. The documentation describes analyses that launch a browser in the cloud, record CPU activity, network traffic, memory footprint and elapsed time, and report emissions in grams of CO2e with a breakdown by scenario. GreenFrame can run the same scenario in a continuous integration pipeline and fail the analysis when the reported footprint exceeds a threshold, an approach the project calls preventing a carbon leak.

Use cases

  • Estimate CO2e emissions of a web page or user journey
  • Run carbon analyses in CI pipelines
  • Block pull requests that increase the carbon footprint
  • Compare emissions across releases
